Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Pedego Lake Las Vegas is the River Mountain bike trail. After some basic riding instructions, you will be on your way to breathtaking views of the Mojave Desert. The hills along this route offer exhilarating miles of paved trail. Even though your day is just getting started, you won’t want to miss the undeniable beauty this trail offers.
For much of the route, you are treated to sweeping views of the captivating-blue waters of Lake Mead enjoyed by boaters, water skiers and personal watercrafts. The bike path then continues along Lake Mead to the Lake Mead’s Visitor’s Center. It’s a perfect spot for a water and restroom break. While there, you may visit the wildlife exhibit and learn about the local plants and animals of the Mojave Desert before heading on to the Historic Railroad Trail.
Between the fascinating railroad history and the stunning Lake Mead views, the Historic Railroad Trail in southern Nevada packs quite a lot into its 3.7-mile route. Following the route of an early-1930s railroad that was built specifically to serve the construction of the nearby Hoover Dam, the trail offers a unique insight into that mammoth engineering feat. Along the first 2.5 miles, you will pass through five enormous tunnels that burrow through rugged volcanic rock. A sign along the way explains that workers toiled around the clock in three shifts in 1931 and got the railroad project done in just five months. Even though the railroad ceased to operate soon after the completion of the Hoover Dam in 1935, the route opened to you as a recreational trail in 1995.
As you approach the end of the trail near the dam, we pass by the Hoover Dam Boneyard. Your Hello Fun tour guide will then lead you to a bike rack area to store your Pedego and can go explore one of the Seven Wonders the Engineering World.
Build during the Great Depression, the Hoover Dam stands 725-feet tall and represents over 6.6 million tons of ingenuity and innovation.
